US Bans Sale of Two Devices Containing HiSilicon Chips

According to "Compliance Watch" (He Gui Guan Lan) on October 23, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that, on October 22, 2026 (local time), its Office of Engineering and Technology took action to block the marketing or sale of two devices—a dash cam and a wireless video transmitter—within the U.S. market.

It is reported that the FCC previously determined that these device models contain chips produced by an entity on the "Covered List"—specifically, HiSilicon, a subsidiary of Huawei.

This marks the first enforcement action taken by the FCC under new regulations that went into effect last week. These rules prohibit the authorization of any equipment containing components with logic-processing capabilities—essentially "smart" components—manufactured by entities included on the "Covered List." The FCC stated that it will continue to strictly enforce its regulations regarding components from entities on this list.

Vote on new measures

Back in July, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced plans to vote on a new measure aimed at prohibiting the sale within the United States of any electronic devices containing components from blacklisted companies. The current enforcement action, which blocks the sale of such products, serves as an implementation of this measure.

Previously, bans were limited to finished telecommunications devices; consequently, chips designed by Huawei's subsidiary, HiSilicon—if purchased by other brands for use in smartphones or tablets—were not explicitly prohibited from being sold in the United States. This is the critical loophole that the FCC is now closing. In a statement, the FCC emphasized that the new regulations are intended to cut off the entry of electronic devices that pose security risks into the United States.
