Memory chip prices have gone crazy

General-purpose DRAM prices have continued to rise, marking the seventh consecutive month of increases. NAND flash memory prices have also risen for the tenth consecutive month, representing the largest increase this year.

According to data released by market research firm DRAMeXchange on the 31st, the average contract price of general-purpose PC products DDR4 8Gb (1Gx8 2133MHz) in October was $7, an increase of 11.11% from the previous month ($6.30).

The price of this product has risen for seven consecutive months. After rebounding in April (up 22.22%), it continued to climb, with an increase of over 20% between May and August. However, the rate of increase slowed, falling to around 10% in September.

TrendForce

According to TrendForce, the parent company of DRAMeXchange, PC manufacturers (OEMs) are stockpiling inventory in anticipation of supply shortages, while suppliers are increasing the proportion of server DRAM production and reducing the supply of PC DRAM. This has exacerbated the supply-demand imbalance in general-purpose DRAM.

TrendForce predicts that "PC DRAM contract prices will rise by 25-30% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter," and that "despite continued supply constraints, major suppliers (Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron) will adjust production and focus on high-value-added products, which will continue to drive up prices."

NAND flash memory prices have also risen for 10 consecutive months

NAND flash memory prices rose for the tenth consecutive month. During the same period, the average contract price for 128Gb (16Gx8) MLC NAND flash memory reached $4.35, a 14.93% increase from the previous month ($3.79). This is the largest monthly increase since 2025.

According to a TrendForce report, NAND flash memory prices are rising rapidly due to reduced supply and increased demand from industrial, automotive, and telecommunications equipment. Particularly noteworthy is the continued strength in the market, especially in niche segments, as SLC and MLC flash memory capacity shrinks.

TrendForce predicts that "NAND flash memory prices are likely to rise further in the first half of 2026 due to stable demand from AI servers, industrial equipment, and automotive electronics."
